You Know You Live in the Snow When
Coming from Miami, Florida really doesn’t help you in preparation for other seasons. It’s summer ALL YEAR ROUND. Moving to a city with four seasons is one of the most exciting concepts for me. And the most common question is “are you ready for the snow?” Even though I’m a first timer for living in snow, I have a few tips I want to share.
People don’t really prepare you for what’s to come. They say January and February are the worst snow months. Snow is unpredictable, but better to be ready than not! Surprisingly, this year has been a “hotter” winter, so maybe I’ll be more prepared for the colder one with these tips!
Ready?
- Buy 2 scrapers- one for your car, an “on-the-go” scraper and one for your house (just in case the one in your car is unreachable)
- Leave the defroster, heated seats/steering wheel, and heater on high if the weather tells you it’s snowing the next day. Trust me, it’ll be easier to work with your car if you start it minutes before leaving.
- Get an ALL-WHEEL DRIVE car. It’ll make you feel safer AND a little taller. If you’ve never had an SUV until now, like me, it’s weird at first. Especially trying to parallel park. But you get used to it. (Having a regular car is also ok, it’s not that bad, just be more careful).
- Buy WINTER coats. Before moving here, I had no idea that fall and winter coats were even slightly different. Winter coats are the full on waterproof coats with hoods and they go up to your knee area. Fall coats are thinner and just enough for the chilly weather.
- Buy a tarp
- Put your wind shield wipers up before a snow day
Tip of the Day: Don’t eat yellow snow… just think about it.
I hope these tips helped!
