About Me: Top 5 of the Nitty Gritty
Let’s get down to business!
My Creative Side
Believe it or not, I got in touch with my creative side my junior year of undergrad through my first internship at an advertising agency. (If you want to see my portfolio, click here). I had always loved writing because that’s how I learned to truly express my feelings. And now I absolutely love anything marketing and advertising too. So I graduated in communications and it was probably one of the greatest decisions I’ve made in my life. That lead me into the current pursuit for my master in business.
Why I’m So Proud of My Culture
I freaking love the “where are you from?” question because I feel I can go on forever. I always go the extra mile to say “I’m Cuban, Nicaragüense and Lebanese” because we intertwine all cultures so deep in our roots that I feel it’s an integral part of me to say all three. I know it’s the 50/50 type deal usually but I’m just really proud. I love all the foods, how I’ve been able to stick with my faith and how my huge family is SO close. I think our culture has a lot to do with it which makes it even more exciting!
Being raised hispanic definitely comes with so many advantages. Spanish was my first language, so I’m bilingual. We had the opportunity to learn salsa, bachata and merengue at early ages too. So I may not have two left feet after all!
New Everything
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida- forever a 305 baby. I recently moved to Naperville, Illinois- my little peanut city (compared to Miami) in the greater Chicago area to pursue my masters. I feel like I should have a whole other post on this because I know a few can relate.
Everything is NEW- the people, the location, having four seasons (which I’m actually REALLY excited for), everything midwestern, down to the cornbread. Now I can attest to the fact that traveling and living will never be the same. Sounds like something you already knew, right? But wait until it happens to you. It’s all SO different.
I feel like it’s taken me a long time to adjust but that’s life! Five months in and I’m loving it- the challenge and the following opportunities. I love working with my staff as a Graduate Assistant and being able to impact students in their careers. So rewarding!
Next Five Years
The most common question after your undergraduate career is: “where do you see yourself in the next five years?” Whatever you choose to answer is what people decide to talk about when you’re not around, or maybe when you are around.
I just finished my first semester in my Master’s in Business Administration degree and I couldn’t be more proud of myself! I’ve come a long way from that sophomore year in college- not knowing what the heck I was going to do with my life. But here I am, pursuing my masters and making it in life!
After graduation, I’m open to wherever life takes me. Whether it’s a few years in Illinois or going home or moving elsewhere; I’m excited!
50 States Before 50
I have a goal to cover all 50 states before I turn 50 years old. I think it’s a solid goal considering I’ve been to 24 states as of today and I’m only 24 years old. But I have to redo some states because Plane & Cheesy has only been to about half those states.
As for countries, so far, I’ve been to 24 countries! I plan to definitely visit more as life progresses and time allows.
I think I may have an obsession with traveling, eating and writing about all of it. But that’s actually a pretty good obsession, I think! That’s one of the reasons this blog exists and I couldn’t be happier to have started it on August 9th, 2017. Thank you to my young self for always keeping my creative juices flowing and growing!
I love when people share about themselves and are willing to talk about their stories. It’s always nice getting to know the nitty gritty of people’s lives. You never know who will be in your life forever!
But you’ll really get to know me with these random facts you’ll probably never guess about me:
- I know the difference between charmin toilet paper vs any other.
- I’m the worst with directions… google maps is my life.
- I think the only reason people wear sweaters in Miami is to not carry an umbrella and just use the sweater as an umbrella.
- I’m ALWAYS carrying my laptop and a water bottle.
- I live and breathe by my tide to go pen.
