On the Way to Providence, Rhode Island

Both Providence and New Port felt like entirely different countries. Making our way to the capital seemed so surreal, but honestly, everywhere we stopped, people talked about New Port. It honestly didn’t even feel weird.

Only because being from Miami is basically the same thing. If you didn’t know, Tallahassee is actually the capital.

Let’s cut to the chase though— A few historical spots really made the cut and these are it! We tried to learn as much as possible while we were in the state capital too.

Rhode Island State House

Overlooking downtown Providence from Smith Hill, the State House is the center of the city. Before the pandemic, people were actually able to climb the inside of the dome, or maybe that was just workers in the building? The dome itself is actually considered to have the fourth largest self-supported marble dome in the world.

I even gave a speech. It went a little like this…

Prospect Terrace

We actually found out about this spot from going to the State House before. The security guard gave us this wonderful spot to drive by and see the skyline of the city. It’s called Prospect Terrace and it’s on the map too!!

Next time, I’ll bring sunglasses also!

You’ll also notice that there are lots of arc-shaped structures in this state too. It’s like it should be in “things to find when in Providence.”

Providence River Walk

Since living in Illinois, I’ve come to notice that almost every state has a river walk. Have I just not seen one in Miami because we have so many oceans? *Dumb question of the day*

We really didn’t walk the whole river walk. We parked by the food truck, walked over the bridge, and made it to this beautiful scenery. It was too cold to walk the 2.40 miles one way and back.

Brown University

Technically we’re not students by law, but we’re always learning, so we’re students anyway. Am I right?!

So in summary: it’s an Ivy League based in Providence, Rhode Island with an acceptance rate of 8%.

Just a quick note: Providence has some great historical hot spots around town. We just went around the most photogenic ones, because we wanted to look good too. The feeling of being a local in another state always has its perks. Take a peak into our Rhode Island fun below:
