Moonshine is Better in Gatlinburg
The first thing we did in Gatlinburg, Tennessee was eat and drink. We wanted the FULL experience! Our airbnb was so close to the strip where everything happened, so we would occasionally walk around. It probably also helped that parking was limited and not as affordable for the few hours we’d spend in town, but it all honestly worked out.
Drinking the Day Away
You can’t miss it. Sugarlands Distilling Co. is one of the main attractions and those that entertain the free samples are very knowledgeable in their facts. Before heading to the tasting, you purchase a $20 wristband which allows you the $5 to do the tasting and $15 to use as credit in their job. Essentially, you’ll be getting your money’s worth for sure!
Another must do is Dick’s Last Resort. I had never been to anything of this concept, so it was pretty funny to always talk back to our bartender. It was like you were allowed to be mean… which shouldn’t be in the real world! There was so much to unfold, but their margaritas were top shape! AND it came in such a LARGE shareable cup and straws.
We have the Meats
If you know anything about the midwest area, you know their bar-b-que is to die for! We did a little research and wanted to experience one of their top shops. Bennett’s Pit Bar-B-Que did not disappoint!!! They even had my favorite beer, Yuengling, to represent and be an added touch to my meal. They don’t have them in Illinois, so I definitely took advantage!
As an added bonus to our meat collection for dinner, we visited two different spots. Burg Steakhouse and Smith & Son’s. My boyfriend and I had dinner with his parents at Burg Steakhouse, so it was nice bonding time. We also had one of their recommended specialty drinks because we were feeling a little fancy that day. The food was buffet style and we could choose a particular sampler to eat from.
At Smith & Son’s, everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It was an open concept kind of place and it looked/felt just like a log cabin. It was nice to be in there, especially share a meal with everyone before our next activity.
“The Most Important Meal of the Day”
I know I probably went backwards, but it’s time for breakfast!!!
Waffle House was SO good. While there was a bit of a wait before we entered, we were able to sit in two booths as a family. The menu had such affordable options and everything looked good. I got the chocolate chip waffles. If you want to eat well, you should get two orders of waffles because they’re actually pretty small. The table also had coffee to start their day right!
We went to FlapJack’s Pancake Cabin twice while we were there because the menu was just so extensive and ready for us to dive in. It was definitely a hole in the wall for us because of the atmosphere, where it’s located, and just overall how they do their service. I ended up with a sweet dish the first time, but maybe that was just my sweet tooth coming in. And the plates feed a lot!
Gatlinburg was so much fun because we really made the best of it as a family! It was also my first boyfriend trip, so that was interesting. I think for the most part, everyone was able to do what they wanted to. We also explored so many places, which you can read about here!
