Explore Potato World in a Day
As odd as it may be, when I think of Idaho, I automatically think of potatoes. That’s what they’re known for. Maybe I’m a little naive when it comes to that way of thinking, but it also keeps me on my toes in a way that there’s more to experience in life than just what the state is known for. It’s a potato world and I’m ready to explore!
Experienced Idaho Falls in the Summer
I don’t think we truly expected Idaho Falls to just be in the middle of everything. We basically walked the whole strip of waterfall and of course, took pictures to share memories. A little history for you- Idaho Falls is the center of the Snake River. So the Greenbelt is an involved system of trails with parks and the Idaho Falls to complete the waterfall look. Very agricultural!
Blushed a little at the Japanese Friendship Garden
Did you get my pun? ANYWAY! I wanted to visit the garden because one of our friends on the trip just absolutely loves everything about Japan. So I thought this would be a special visit. It mimicked the Japanese Friendship Garden with the pink flowers everywhere, plenty of visitors coming to view its beauty, and just the overall feel of nature in one place. Kind of reminded me to be the heart of the Idaho Falls. It’s also a pretty recent build from 2016. So everything is new to give Japan a pop up in Idaho.
Pit Stop for Smokin Fins
Walking distance from Idaho Falls, this place hit the spot! Let’s taco ’bout it a little more though, because the sushi definitely let the good times roll!!! We loved the food and were so excited to finally eat after so much exploring.
Took a Flight in Snow Eagle Brewery
This spot was at the end of Idaho Falls and it took flight into our hearts. We ordered the biggest flight for us all to try and it was SO cheap compared to the prices back home. They also gave us a huge variety of choices for our beer, so I think that makes a world of difference. The restaurant had a rustic, but train station type feel, so it was pretty cool.
Potatoes in Mitchell’s Restaurant
The ONLY place to have baked potatoes in Idaho. We were SHOCKED. Idaho is known for their potatoes, so we expected so much to the extent that all I wanted in Idaho was a potato. Just know that after exploring this state, my expectations lowered.
Long story short, we arrived to Idaho and asked about the potatoes. Some lady recommended Denny’s for baked potatoes. We were somewhat discouraged and a little lost that she would recommend a chain, so as we went about our day, we found another spot that was highly recommended by google reviews. To our surprise, google had certain hours, but the place had different hours by the time we arrived. So we couldn’t eat there anymore.
This is how we stumbled on Mitchell’s Restaurant. The second best thing became a good place to finally eat our baked potato. I give it like a 7 of 10 though. It wasn’t as special as I thought it would be to have potatoes in Idaho. The good part was that Mitchell’s is open 24 hours and you don’t need reservations!
Thank you for the potato adventure Idaho, but onto the next state… UTAH!!!!
